The Check List

We received a very interesting email this week in the AsianD8 office. A female dater has collated her thoughts on speed dating and is asking the question of whether ladies expecting a man to tick all the boxes on her check list are being too fussy. She wants to remain anonymous but is happy for us to share what she has to say here on our blog…

The Check List

Lippy? Check! Heels? Check! Dress? Check! One way or another, my best friend had convinced me to try something different and by different she meant speed dating… We arrive and the bell rings. He takes a seat and politely asks for my name. My thoughts are on auto pilot and it appears right before me; the check list. My mind is fixated on all the things this man should be and isn’t. The three minutes are up; he shakes my hand and walks away.

A moment of realisation of just how critical and uptight I had become, being little miss picky ticking off my check list and showing no interest in what this guy had to say about himself. Later that evening I decided to have a three-way conference call with the girls and quickly realised I wasn’t the only little miss picky ticking away my check list. Were we really letting this check list take the fun and pure joy out of meeting someone new? Now let’s be honest, we all have our very own tick list hidden away in our hearts, some of us willing to declare it and others keeping it locked away. If you’re anything like me, you’re likely to have at least 10 things on your check list, or should I say did have…

My realist best friend has never failed to remind me of just how much one cannot have everything; a compromise she says is always required as a special secret ingredient in successful relationships. My stubborn personality often shouts back “Yes I can”. However now that the years have spiralled by and the endless amounts of bad to be forgotten dates have become funny stories to tell friends and family about, it has got me thinking that maybe mother dearest is right…? (As mothers often are) Maybe we should re-think the “check list” and slowly begin to remove a box here and there?

Ladies, life’s everyday pressures can make dating difficult and before you know it, we can be scuffing down doughnuts faster than Homer Simpson and we start questioning whether or not Mr Right is even out there! We must remember that a check list should not block us from hearing a guy out at a 3 minute speed date but merely provide check points to stop us from making any past dating mistakes all over again. Maybe from time to time we should sit back and review our list, see if anything can be tweaked and learn to take it with a pinch of salt in the hopes of allowing ourselves to free fall into the arms of Mr Right. In the meantime feel free to have a peek at my little check list…

Before:

  • Tall
  • Good dress sense
  • Great smile
  • Bubbly personality
  • Ambitious
  • Great soft hair
  • No chest hair!!
  • Morning person
  • Lamb chop lover
  • A classy watch
  • Able to cook

After:

  • Still need him to be tall
  • Good dress sense
  • Well spoken
  • Family man
  • Hairy chest is still a no can do!
  • Bubbly Personality
  • Confident

The point is ladies; we all have our very own check list because we as women have the divine right to be picky.  However sometimes we should allow ourselves to see beyond our check lists as this list may one day mean Mr Right walks past without us realising and we all know we can’t have that happening! So ladies when was the last time you reviewed your list?  Go on have a little review of your list; you may be pleasantly surprised.

NEWS: New Feature; Star Matches / Inbox

Our company ethos…

We like to think we’re a dating company with a difference. We believe in constantly striving to achieve our aim; to help you guys find love and have a great experience with us. Our team regularly sit down together and think of ways to help us improve and over the past few weeks we’ve developed something that will do just that!

So what have we developed?

We understand the importance of getting you in front of the right people (that’s why our website focuses on British Asians and allows you to filter your searches based on a variety of factors). That’s why we’ve developed a brand new message inbox called Star Inbox. You will now be able to specify which members you want to be contacted by based on upon a members age range and religion which we’ve titled Star Matches. Any messages sent from anyone within this criterion will automatically appear in your Star Inbox (which is now your primary inbox and located at the top of your message centre).

What about non Star Matches?

Don’t worry; anyone can still message you, the only difference being that these messages will appear in your secondary inbox located underneath your Star Inbox.  These settings do not effect who can interact with you on D8chat.

Do I need to do anything?

Yes, make sure you update your Star Matches if you haven’t already. Don’t worry you can change these at any time.  Hopefully you have an even better experience with us and maybe you’ll even find the love of your life via a message from a Star Inbox?

TIPS & ADVICE : Our guide to sending messages

Hi Guys,

We all know that good first impressions are really important in life & are the ones that count the most. Sending someone who has caught your eye, a message for the first time works in the same way. So here is our guide to making a great & lasting first impression.

Quality over Quantity

Sending generic messages to everyone on the website in order to find the right person is a mistake that some people make. Take the time to read profiles & look for a common interest. It will make a positive first impression & give you a better chance of making the right connection.

Call me on 07897 860…

You wouldn’t just walk up to people on the street or in a bar & give out your contact details without introducing yourself would you? So it’s unlikely to work online. Get to know someone a little bit first, build a rapport & show them you’re serious about getting to know them before handing out your personal details.

Be Chivalrous

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Don’t underestimate the power of being a little courteous, showing good manners, being honest & good grammar can go along way on painting you in a positive light, especially online.

Don’t forget, profiles with pictures are 93% more likely to be clicked on compared to those without a picture! So before you send a message make sure you have a picture up on your profile.

Our big congratulations goes out to Tanya Mukherjee who was presented with her cheque earlier this week.

Tanya presented with her cheque

It was truly a pleasure for us at AsianD8 to meet Rita and Kish Tailor in the picturesque town of Windsor. The two had met one another on AsianD8online, become best of friends and eventually fell in love. Although we frequently get messages thanking us for helping them meet their partners, it was nice meeting a couple who wanted to share their happiness and give a little hope to other singles out there. The chemistry between the two was evident for everyone to see, and was quite inspiring for Vik and Pali who had made the journey to Windsor to meet the couple. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that you’ve played a part in helping bring two people together like Rita and Kish.

After enjoying a pleasant meal at Browns we headed to the nearby park on a distinctively sunny day to capture the story for everyone to see. We thought it would be a good idea for Rita and Kish to enjoy some ice cream whilst telling us their story. If you haven’t yet watched their story you can do so here – Rita and Kish find love on AsianD8

NEWS: Last chance to win £500!

Last month we launched the Tilda Survey on our website to help Tilda learn a little bit about your eating preferences with the opportunity to win £500! There are now only a few days left to take part and win £500. If you missed our earlier blog and want to know how and why we teamed up with Tilda you can do so below…

Tilda was the first company to bring Basmati to the Western World over 30 years ago and has become an international food brand selling in over 40 countries. The company started its’ business selling Basmati to the Asian community who immigrated to the UK in the late sixties and early seventies. To this day Tilda remains a family business employing some 200 people in the UK and is proud of its’ reputation for uncompromising quality and a commitment to sustaining the legendary status of Basmati and the Tilda Basmati brand worldwide. So naturally we were thrilled when the marketing team from Tilda got in touch with the us to talk rice! It was fun talking to Tilda about our favourite rice dishes and recipes, and that got Tilda thinking about what everyone else connected to our brand thought about rice.

As a result Tilda in association with AsianD8 have created a short online survey about, (yes you guessed it) rice! The survey is quick and easy and literally takes a minute to complete.  Anyone who completes the survey will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win £500! The draw will take place on May 6th at Tilda headquarters in Rainham, Essex and the winner will be notified by email. For more information you can contact the Tilda marketing team at marketing@tilda.com or us at the usual info@asiand8online.com for us.
